Espanola council considering naming a ball field after Roberta Vincent

A late woman’s contributions to women’s softball and slo-pitch could be acknowledged by Espanola council.

Tonight, council will deal with a report asking that B Field at the Red McCarthy Memorial Ball Fields be named the Roberta Vincent Memorial Ball Diamond.

Vincent, who died in 2011, is well known for her over 30 years of contributions to baseball starting in the 1970s.

Not only is she reputed to be one of the top pitchers in ladies’ fastball, but she also held both longstanding executive and coaching positions helping hundreds of young women discover the love of baseball.

Council will decide on the move this evening and if they are supportive of the move, signage will be installed at the field to mark the occasion.
