Another death in Sudbury due to COVID-19 and another outbreak

Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Medical Officer of Health with Public Health Sudbury & Districts says an elderly woman is dead as a result of COVID-19.

Dr. Sutcliffe says the woman in her 80s was a resident of St. Joseph’s Villa in Sudbury who tested positive for the virus on April 21st.

She says out of respect during this difficult time, no further details will be provided.

Dr. Sutcliffe adds there has also been another confirmed outbreak at a fourth long-term residence in the Greater Sudbury area.

She says an employee of St. Gabriel Villa was tested as part of the ongoing targeted surveillance of long-term care homes and was found to be positive.

Dr. Sutcliffe says the woman in her 50s is the 59th case within the health unit’s jurisdiction and she is self-isolating at home.
