USW Local 6500 ratifies a new one-year agreement

COVID-19 affected how a large mining union ratified a one-year deal.
United Steelworkers Local 6500 members ratified the new collective agreement with 62.8 percent support.
According to the media release, both Vale and the union agreed to the one-year renewal so that attention can be focused on health and safety during the pandemic.
Members had to vote electronically after being mailed details through Canada Post.
The local looks forward to renewing negotiations next year.
