Elliot Lake votes to accept appointment of Integrity Commissioner retroactively

Elliot Lake council held an intense debate on a motion to retroactively accept the Sault Ste. Marie law firm E4m as the official Integrity Commissioner for the municipality.

City CAO, Daniel Gagnon, says it was an oversight on both the city and the legal firm’s part not officially appointing E4m as the IC when it was hired as legal counsel earlier this Spring.

Council was split on the issue with Councillor Norman Mann contending the process was flawed, so he couldn’t support the motion.

However, Councillor Luc Cyr contends that it would be a disservice to the public not to accept the work carried out by E4M in investigating 102 complaints.

In a recorded vote, Councillors Chris Patrie, Norman Mann and Sandy Finamore voted against the motion with Tom Turner, Ed Pearce and Luc Cyr voting in favour.

Mayor Dan Marchisella broke the tie voting in favour of E4m being recognized officially as the IC for the city retroactively from February to late May of this year.
