Preliminary hearing cancelled – going to trial

The second day of a preliminary hearing looking into the theft of over $30,000 from an Espanola service club was canceled on Friday.

Fifty-three-year-old Anita Everett, formerly of Espanola, was facing two charges; theft of over $5,000 and theft under $5,000 involving two bank accounts of the Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch 39.

On July 26th, four witnesses presented their evidence before adjourning.

Last Friday, both the Crown and Defense agreed there was enough evidence to go to trial by judge without hearing from the last seven of 11 witnesses.
The lesser charge of theft under $5,000 was also dropped.

A date for the trial will be set on September 3rd.
