The Manitoulin OPP says the investigation into the drowning of an 18-year-old teen on Manitoulin Island continues.
Manitoulin OPP Constable, Marie Ford, says 18-year-old Kyle Benedict of Chatham drowned in Meldrum Bay on Monday afternoon.
Ford adds the investigation is ongoing with the assistance of the Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Service.
Family friend, Erin June, has set up a Go Fund Me to assist Benedict’s family with funeral expenses.
She says Kyle was a member of the 59th Legion Highlander Army Cadet Corps in Chatham and rose to the rank of Master Warrant Officer.
June adds he just graduated from Grade 12 and was planning to take in a Victory Lap before going on to post-secondary education.
And, he loved vacationing on Manitoulin Island.
