Asian Carp meeting next month

In an effort to beat the Asian Carp threat, the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is holding a series of information meetings. Five sessions are planned and the only one going on in Northern Ontario is December 2nd in Sault Ste. Marie. The Asian Carp is a threat because their huge reproductive rates and big appetites will decimate the native fish population in the Great Lakes. Fishing in the Great Lakes is a $5 billion industry. The species hasn’t yet gotten a strong foothold in the lakes, but their DNA has been detected in Lake Michigan near Chicago. That’s prompted Ontario and the U-S to work at fighting the threat. The Sault Ste. Marie meeting takes place at the Waterfront Hotel.
