NE LHIN supporting seniors living at home on Manitoulin

First Nation seniors on Manitoulin Island who want to remain in stay home and need help will be able to access a new North East Local Health Integration Network program to help meet their needs.

North East LHIN interim CEO, Kate Fyfe says the LHIN is investing more than $350,000 with the Noojmowin Teg  Health Centre to help seniors remain independent at home as part of the Aboriginal Health Care Reconciliation Action Plan.

The services include: personal support, homemaking, and care co-ordination needs so that they are able to remain living safely at home; funding for a geriatric social worker who will work with older adults and their families to provide assessments, supportive counselling, and care coordination.

Investments include assisted living services for 10 high-risk seniors who are living in any of the seven First Nation communities on Manitoulin Island.

About 75 clients will also be supported through this program.
