Size of Pearson Plaza in Elliot Lake being reduced

It’s not want Elliot Lake residents want to hear.  The developer is scaling back the size of the Pearson Plaza considerably.  McGowan will now only build for tenants he has signed to move into the site.   Of the seven tenants, only two are retailers and they are Sobeys and Dollarama.  City council is being told there’s nothing it can do because there are no penalty clauses.  The bad news came at council Monday night prompting one disgruntled resident to shout there won’t be any place to buy underwear in town a reference to the fact the plaza won’t have a mass merchandiser as was expected.   There is some good news; the plaza will be enclosed with an interior walkway connecting the outlets and there will be a common area.
