Increased bear sightings spark fear in small northern town

Residents of a small town in Northern Ontario are living in constant fear of bears in the community. Residents in Larder Lake, located just outside of Kirkland Lake have already reported 18 bear encounters this year. Larder Lake resident Angie Carter says she was sitting in her living room with her three month old daughter when a bear entered her kitchen and snatched hamburger buns from the table.  Another member of the community says she is terrified and will no longer allow her fiver year old to play outside.

A spokesperson with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry said the blueberries and raspberries that bears usually feed on are still too green so they’re looking for other sources of food. The ministry is setting up bear traps in the area and once they are trapped the animals will be relocated.
