Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is continuing to raise red flags over the lack of broadband investments in northern Ontario. He says some rural communities are still on dial-up, and cell phone coverage is spotty at best as you get further north. But, he says FedNor has been walking away from projects that will improve services.
Angus says FedNor had a whole series of applications to expand broadband, and they’ve been cancelled one after the other. He says the Trudeau government is promoting a new program for broadband applications called Connecting Canadians. But, he points out that program is going to put the projects back at least two years.
Angus says broadband is a key component in economic diversification, and these kinds of political games are not helpful.
