The NDP want the Liberal government to bend the rules a bit for a Timmins man who needs access to the Northern Health Travel Grant. The man has a heart problem that can only be treated by the drug Xolair. But Timmins-James Bay MPP Gilles Bisson says the drug is only administered in Toronto clinics that are not provincially approved. Because of that, the patient can’t qualify for the travel grant. Bisson wants an exception made otherwise the man has to remain hospitalized which costs the system more money than the travel grant.
