If you’re driving in Sault Ste. Marie and are pulled over by an unmarked police cruiser, ask for identification. A man in the Sault is stopping motorists by activating red and blue lights on his dashboard. Drivers stop because they believe it’s an unmarked unit. A woman was stopped by the fake cop on Wednesday but then drove away because his clothing and behavior made her suspicious. The man wore dirty, torn jeans, a T-shirt, a ball cap and smelled of cigarettes. Police say if you’re unsure about the person stopping you, ask for ID because a real cop will have a badge and other police identification.
