A Northern Ontario New Democrat is raising the issue of mine safety in Ontario mines. Mike Mantha, of Algoma Manitoulin, says the Liberals need to take action on this issue. Mantha was reacting to the seventh mining death in the province this year. A 38-year-old miner died in a Thunder Bay mine a week ago today. The NDP want the majority Liberal government to hold an inquiry into mining deaths instead of simply reviewing health and safety. The party also wants a special prosecutor created who would enforce workplace standards in Ontario.
