Alzheimer’s Society says they need more staff

An Espanola group is turning to Algoma Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha to stop any further erosion of services for people with dementia. After a program expired, the area from Walford to Nairn plus Espanola and Manitoulin only has one person to provide dementia services.

The Alzheimer’s Society says this will only get worse as more people come down with the memory-stealing disease as they get older. It says what’s needed is a dependable level of service for the area.

Doing this lets people stay in their homes a little longer and saves the healthcare system money because they don’t have to be housed in care facilities just yet.
