Fedeli agrees merging Algoma and Sudbury health units is a bad idea

The MPP for Nipissing agrees with municipal politicians in Algoma that merging its health unit with Sudbury’s is a bad idea. Vic Fedeli says years ago the health units in North Bay and Parry Sound merged to create a regional agency and they’re only 90 minutes apart.

He says despite the proximity, there are still big differences between the two, and believes a merger between Algoma and Sudbury is worse. He says he can’t even begin to imagine the needs with Sault Ste. Marie are identical to the needs within Sudbury.

Fedeli also says mergers create unforeseen problems. He says when the health unit in North Bay merged with Parry Sound, it put an ongoing strain on the administration.
