Algoma Manitoulin MPP Mike Mantha is asking the Premier to better support Hornepayne. He says the Liberal government is allowing both the Olav Haavaldsrud Timber Mill and the Becker Cogeneration Plant to stay closed, which is devastating the community. Mantha met with representatives of both companies last week, and found out that Wynne didn’t present any plans to keep the operation open during a recent meeting. He says it’s unbelievable the province has kept families waiting for over five months, only to be told there is nothing for them.
The Hornepayne mill and plant employ almost 300 people, which is 40 per cent of the town’s workforce.
