The Clear Lake Stewardship Association has completed a major project in rerouting a creek that feeds Clear Lake (also known as Griffin Lake) in Espanola’s south end.
Stewardship spokesperson, Fred Yachuk says 10 years ago, the association took on one of the biggest and most daunting and satisfying projects, which has now come to fruition.
He says well over 10 years ago, a massive rainstorm washed away nearly half of the Clear Lake Beach when the creek overflowed its banks.
He says a similar weather event occurred this July, but the beach remained untouched.
Yachuk explains the association spearheaded the project to reroute the creek under the guidance of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Town of Espanola rerouting it so it would not affect the popular beach area.
It was a community effort, he adds with the Espanola Lions Club funding the project, Belanger Construction digging the trench and graveling the new streambed, and Don Eadie Construction donating the stone for the break wall along the creek.
Yachuk adds the association continues to monitor the health of the lake ensuring the waterway maintains its health and for residents and visitors alike.
