The Elliot Lake Women’s Group has received a substantial donation of $30,000 from a local senior.
A retired junior high teacher and physical education consultant, Su Smart decided to make the donation following a presentation by Esther Rongoma, the executive director of the group, highlighting the troubling rise in the number of seniors requiring support services.
Officials say the funding will go towards replacing the windows at Maplegate House, the shelter for women, and replace windows, which will cost about $40,000.
Currently, the group manages both Maplegate House, and Larry’s Place Fresh Start Shelter for Men.
The women’s group thanked Smart for her generous donation adding this is the largest donation they have received in assisting them in their work.
