Door-to-door salesman charged

A teen has been fined for going door-to-door without proper identification.  Espanola police received a call from a resident last Friday who was concerned about a suspicious man claiming to be from Ontario Energy Star and asking to see homeowner’s utility bills.  Officers responded to the call and found the man on John Street and found that he was not an employee of Ontario Energy Star but a private company called Ontario Energy Group selling HVAC systems.  It was found that the 19-year-old or the company had not obtained a Hawkers and Peddlers licence from the Town of Espanola to allow them to sell goods and services door-to-door.  He was charged for not having the permit which carries a fine of $500.
