The 50th anniversary of the Franco-Ontarian flag was marked by a new initiative introduced by Edith Dumont, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario at festivities held in Sudbury yesterday.
She says the 50th anniversary is a great opportunity to celebrate how far we have come over the decades, while looking with pride and confidence to the future of our shared history in Ontario.
She officially launched “50 Years of Pride! Together for Tomorrow”, a provincial arts and community initiative marking the anniversary.
The initiative, which runs from September 2025 to fall 2026, will bring together local artists and community members from across the province, with the support of cultural, community and academic organizations.
Selected projects will be eligible for up to $10,000 in funding, as well as mentorship and regional support.
Led by the Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario in partnership with the Alliance culturelle de l’Ontario, and supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Government of Ontario and TFO, the initiative is open to all artistic fields: visual arts, music, dance, theatre, digital media, and interdisciplinary projects.
Locally, schools held flag-raisings and gathered together to celebrate their culture.
