Following a detailed report and discussion at Elliot Lake Council’s Monday night meeting, council passed a motion to spend an additional $11.6 million on the Rogers Arena.
Council endorsed a contract with Perry + Perry Architects to design and oversee a complete retrofit of the arena with the money.
That is addition to the $11 million already spent or approved.
Company spokesperson Chris Penny says the retrofit will extend the facility’s life up to 75 more years.
He also told council that they will provide regular progress reports and cost updates including a detailed plan with 3D renderings to update the 50 plus year old building.
Council assured the public there will be input from the wider community on the upgrades.
Structural repairs forced the closure of the arena last year with that work nearing completion.
No timeline for completion of the retrofits has been provided.
