Elliot Lake firefighters are helping their colleagues in South and Central America. The local department is sending fire squads south of the border 14 sets of bunker gear and helmets. Acting fire Chief John Thomas says the equipment is still good but Canadian regulations limit how long firefighters can use equipment. Thomas says instead of throwing out the gear, the department is sending it to Firefighters Without Borders which will get it to South and Central America.
