An Espanola woman has written a cookbook to support an annual mission to Cuba.
Jenn Bousquet, a member of Northern Life Church, has produced a cookbook called Daniel Fast Cookbook
Bousquet says she chose to center this cookbook around the Daniel Fast, a spiritual discipline rooted in prayer and intentional nourishment, which features some 50 recipes.
“Last year, I stepped into Cuba with our team a suitcase full of supplies and a heart full of expectation. I left with something far greater—an unshakable calling.
“I met people who had almost nothing, yet radiated joy. Their homes were humble, their resources scarce, but their faith? Unbreakable. They prayed and fasted weekly with a hunger for God that
humbled me. They didn’t just believe in miracles—they expected them. Healing, provision, breakthrough—all through Him, and only Him.
“They asked for so little. And yet, they gave so much: their time, their prayers, their unwavering trust in God’s will. “God willing,” they’d say—not as a cliché, but as a conviction. They knew that without Him, nothing moved. Meanwhile, back home, we pray and then start making things happen ourselves. In Cuba, they pray and wait. They trust. They surrender.
“That contrast shook me. It softened me. It changed me.
“We’ve become so accustomed to high-speed downloads, drive-through dinners, and instant gratification. We expect God to function the same way—fast, efficient, on our schedule. We put a time limit on Him: “Whatever You’re going to do in hearts today, make sure You wrap it up by noon—I’ve got other things to do.” We give Him so little time, yet expect such big things.
“But in Cuba, I saw what it looks like to give God everything. Time, trust, tears. They wait on Him not because they have no other option, but because they know He is the only option.
“That’s why I created a cookbook for the Daniel Fast—to marry fasting, prayer, and Cuba into one sacred rhythm. It’s more than recipes. It’s a spiritual invitation. Every dish is crafted to nourish the body while awakening the soul. Every page is a prayer. Every bite is a seed sown into a land that has sown so much into me.
“I cry when I talk about Cuba. Not because I’m sad, but because I’m moved. Because I’ve seen the face of God in the eyes of those who have nothing but Him—and it was enough.
“I don’t know all the steps ahead, but I know this: I will keep saying yes. I will keep going. I will keep serving. Because Cuba didn’t just change me—it called me.”
She released the new book yesterday, the digital copy is $15, the hardcopy, $20, and will take orders through her Facebook site.
Bousquet adds she is excited to return to Cuba in mid-January of 2026.
