WTPS renew appeal for information in death of Anthony Mandamin – memorial walk planned

The Wikwemikong Tribal Police Service is renewing its call for information related to the death of Anthony Samuel Mandamin, who was killed in a hit-and-run on Sept. 16, 2006.
Police Chief Ron Gignac says Mandamin, who was 25 years old at the time, was struck and killed around 6 a.m. while walking on Kaboni Road after leaving a house party in the village of Wiikwemkoong.
The says the driver failed to remain at the scene.
Gignac adds this year marks 19 years since Mandamin’s passing, and to honour his memory and raise awareness, community members will hold a memorial walk on Sept. 13, beginning at 9 a.m. at Pat’s Café (and ending at noon at Pat’s House on Webkamigad Road) with a feast and giveaway to follow.
(A sacred fire will also be lit at Osawamick G’Tigaaning from Sept. 12 to 13 for prayers and reflection.)
Gignac says police continue to pursue leads in the case and anyone with information is asked to call the service.
