Layoffs are coming at the Sudbury and District Health Unit. It`s the result of the agency getting about half a percent less to run its operations which include the Espanola and Manitoulin region. Medical officer of health, Doctor Penny Sutcliffe says the reductions will come through layoffs, attrition and not replacing staff when people quit. So far the plan is to let three union people and one manager go late next year. As for 2017, the news likely won`t get better because the health unit expects its budget will be cut by another $750,000.
