Elliot Lake’s Little Warrior, seven-year-old Elijah Caden Hennessey, has passed away.
Elijah was receiving care and waiting for surgery in the Cardiac Critical Care unit at SickKids Hospital in Toronto when he passed away last Thursday afternoon following a cardiac arrest.
His mother, Jessie, says they chose to name him Elijah Caden, which means “fighter,” and so he became widely known as the Little Warrior.
From the time of his birth, he had to overcome and go through several medical procedures to help his heart and lungs function as close to normal as possible.
Heterotaxy syndrome is a rare congenital condition that disrupts the typical arrangement of internal organs, which has led to many trips to hospitals and SickKids in Toronto.
Through the years, the wider community of Elliot Lake, Espanola and the North Shore Corridor stepped up to provide monetary and moral support.
Jessie had been hoping he would be strong enough to travel to Boston for a life-changing surgery, and a GoFundMe was set up last month to help alleviate the costs, but it is not to be.
His Celebration of Life will be held this Saturday, August 9th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Collins Hall.
