No resolution on tailings disposition, publicity campaign now underway

Residents voiced their discontent at the lack of response to the trucking of niobium tailings into the site of a former uranium mine, Agnew Lake, by the upper governments and related agencies at a public meeting last Monday.
Trucks are expected to start shipping the tailings in August, according to Nairn Mayor Amy Macey, despite the opposition from locals over the last year.
Nairn CAO Belinda Ketchabaw says they also received an email from the MTO that some of the niobium tailings are going to the Clean Harbours radioactive waste facility near Sarnia, which is designed to receive dangerous materials. She’s asking if some of the tailings go there, why can’t all of them?
Baldwin Mayor Vern Gorham says they have a billboard campaign in the works, and there is also a possibility of a massive email campaign to inundate the government(s) with their opposition.
There is also the possibility of public demonstrations when the trucks start arriving.
