Public Health Sudbury and Districts is reporting the first measles infection in the Sudbury and Manitoulin districts since 2014.
Officials say the affected individual is an infant who was too young to have been vaccinated.
Public Health says measles is spreading across North America at levels not seen in three decades. Given the heightened risk, officials say it is important everyone protect themselves by ensuring they have had two doses of vaccine, as vaccination remains the best protection against the virus.
Officials say over 90% of people who are not immune to measles will become infected if they are exposed to the virus, and infection can lead to complications like lung infections, seizures, and more.
