Manitoulin Special Olympians shine at provincial games

The Special Olympic Provincial Summer Games were held this past weekend and the Manitoulin contingent has come home with some hardware.
Roslyn Taylor says the stayed at the McMaster University residence and travelled to the games at the Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex in Brantford.
She says their Olympians competed in track and field and softball.
In track, the three competitors brought home four gold, two silver and two bronze while the Manitoulin Wolverines Softball team won the bronze in a nail biter against Ottawa.
She says the coaches are proud of all their special athletes and thanks the wider community for its support.
The three athletes who competed as a Manitoulin Strider were coached by Joanne Mellan.
The results:
Bruce Vanhorn Gold 100 m, Gold mini javelin,
Kelsey Mellan Gold mini javelin, Bronze shot put, Bronze 200 m
Matt Bedard Gold 800 m, Silver 3,000 m, Silver 5,000
The Manitoulin Wolverines Softball with 12 athletes were coached by Janet Anning, Sandra Graham and Taylor.
They include Tyler Madahbee, Emily Moggy, Jeffery Harper, Rebecca Strain, Aaron Nickol, Micheal Harper, Dylan Danville, Michael Cormier, William LeClair, Marybeth Taliotis, Jared Ladouceur and Mathieu Bouillon.
The Manitoulin Wolverines won two games and lost one in round robin to bring home the bronze.
