It is Senior Month, and the province and participating municipalities have begun their presentations for the 2025 Senior of the Year Awards.
Espanola Mayor Doug Gervais and the council presented its inaugural 2025 Senior of the Year Award to Vista Radio’s own Rosalind Russell including a Certificate from the Ontario Government.
Russell was selected from seven nominees by a committee made up of members from the community acknowledging her volunteerism through her initiatives including the Wrapped in Warmth Campaign, Heart of Gold Campaign for children with cancer, annual Drug Walk and her ongoing assistance in promoting and supporting numerous organizations in Espanola on the Moose 99.3 FM CJJM – Espanola.
Russell is also a longtime contributor to Around & About in Espanola and a past managing editor of the Mid-North Monitor having provided news to the local area for the last 45 years.
She has also advocated for the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer through her pageantry work, as well as advocating for women’s empowerment, having won the national 2024 Ms. Elite Regional Canada title.
