CyberSmarts for senior’s project empowers older adults to thrive online

A new initiative is bringing digital learning directly to seniors in Elliot Lake.
The CyberSmarts for Seniors Project is delivered by Raknas Inc., a local corporation, in collaboration with Golden Voices, the seniors-focused division of the DiversityCanada Foundation.
Spokesperson Celia Sankar says the project is designed to help older adults get online and navigate the digital world with confidence, purpose, and safety.
She says whether it’s avoiding a scam, applying for pension benefits, joining a Zoom family reunion, or simply browsing health tips online, the program offers useful lessons tailored to the unique needs of older adults.
The program is provided at no cost and is open to all seniors aged 55 and is sponsored by federal government’s New Horizons for Seniors Program. It has also received strong local support from ELNOS, where most of the in-person activities will take place.
Sankar says the advisory panel meeting will be held on Wednesday, June 4th, at 10:30 a.m. at the ELNOS boardroom.
Seniors interested in participating are encouraged to indicate their interest on the registration form.
Classes are expected to start in the summer and continue up to the first quarter of 2026.
Registration is now open, and all sessions are free. Seniors can register at
Printed forms are also available at the ELNOS office (just around the corner from the blood work clinic on the third floor of the building in which Rexall is located).
For more information, seniors can call (705) 261-2338.
