Algoma Public Health issues suspension orders over immunizations

Algoma Public Health has issued hundreds of suspension orders for students who have not kept their immunizations up to date.
Candice Carter, manager of the immunization program, says 549 suspension orders have been issued to high school students across the Algoma region this April, with 140 students ultimately facing suspension for failing to keep their immunizations up to date.
She says the suspensions can last for as long as 20 days.
She notes the order serves as a reminder for families to update their vaccinations.
Carter says the agency had issued letters to parents and guardians of the region’s high school students in January, and again in the spring, with the newest letters including a suspension order while also providing time for students to get their immunizations up to date.
To update immunization records, parents and guardians can contact Algoma Public Health in the following ways:
• · Online at www.algomapublichealth.com/icon
• · Via phone through your local Algoma Public Health office; 705-848-2314 for Sault Ste. Marie
• · Via email, with vaccine records sent to [email protected]
• · Via fax at 705-848-2314
