The City of Elliot Lake will be hosting a simulated emergency scenario.
Officials say it’s happening next Tuesday (May 13), and stakeholders will host the simulation from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. as a training opportunity and an assessment of the emergency preparedness plan to evaluate where improvements and changes can be made.
The public is asked not to be alarmed since the scenario will include first responders and their vehicles, as well as staff, public works and volunteers in and around the closed mining sites.
The scenario will not disrupt public services nor affect any roadways in the city.
The event is in partnership with BHP and Rio Algom. Officials say residents should be aware that real life sights and sounds may be seen and heard through a variety of emergency response vehicles in the area.
Any impact to the community should be minimal.
To maximize the effectiveness of the training, the public is asked to refrain from visiting the exercise areas and be patient by not impeding the process throughout the exercise.
Residents in the area should continue reporting real world emergencies by dialing 9-1-1.
