Preliminary federal election results for Sudbury East—Manitoulin—Nickel Belt

Update as of 9:00 a.m.

It looks like the new riding of Sudbury East—Manitoulin—Nickel Belt will have a new face as its Member of Parliament.

Conservative Jim Belanger unofficially won the seat last night.
Belanger took the lead in the polls early, and stayed there for the remainder of the evening.
The Liberal’s Marc G. Serré finished second.
In Nipissing-Timiskaming, Liberal Pauline Rochefort has an over 1,100 vote lead over Conservative Garry Keller in the race, with one poll left to be counted.

It was a seesaw battle all night, with Rochefort taking the early lead, then falling behind by as much as a 1,400 vote margin for most of the night.

That’s before she came back in the final few polls, to regain the lead.

For the riding of Sault Ste. Marie – Algoma, Liberal Terry Sheehan is the unofficial winner.
Sheehan also led the riding for the majority of the evening, but it was a tight race with Hugh Stevenson of the Conservative party right on his heels all night long.
