A study shows allowing the Great Lakes to keep dropping will cost Ontario and eight American states almost $19 billion by 2050. Stop the Drop spokesman Colin Dobell says the losses will be spread across various sectors. But Dobell says one area will be hit really hard and that’s recreational boating which will account for two thirds of the revenue. Stop the Drop has been trying to get governments from both sides of the border to address the lower water level issue. However Dobell says because the loss is spread over so many territories and over three decades, it’s tough to get politicians to do anything. Dobell says what will get them to act is the voice of the people who are concerned about the ongoing lake levels and get involved.
