The Jesuits of Canada have taken the Anishinabe Spiritual Centre, just south of Espanola, off the market.
According to the release from their head office in Montreal, they have committed to working with a select group of local Indigenous partners who have been actively involved with the centre throughout its history.
Located on Anderson Lake, officials say the centre was put on the market last year because they did not have the manpower or funds to maintain it.
The Jesuits will now work closely with their new partners and the local Catholic bishop to transfer the centre to a new governance structure that honours and preserves its Anishinaabe and Catholic identity.
Throughout this period of transition, the centre will remain fully operational.
