Improving services at the Elliot Lake Airport is one objective in city council’s Strategic Plan. Mayor Dan Marchisella says improving the service might get local miners to fly to remote mining camps out of the local airport. He says right now many of them fly out of Sudbury. But he says if agreements could be worked out with a carrier like Porter, then flights to those camps could originate locally for miners. Marchisella says providing those flights would save miners that drive to and from Sudbury, saving them a lot of time. Plus he adds it would make the local airport busier. Marchisella says the bottom line is the community has to find better use for its airport.
