Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli was quick out of the starting block to criticize Thursday’s Throne Speech from the re-elected Liberals. Fedeli says Ontario faces serious economic challenges but the Wynne Liberals don’t address that in the blueprint document. Fedeli says a big concern is since Ontario’s credit outlook was downgraded, it means higher interest payment on the overall debt. He adds if we’re now paying more interest on the debt, it means less money for other areas like frontline services. Fedeli is also critical of the proposed Ontario Retirement Pension Plan. He says internal Liberal government documents already show the proposal will cost tens of thousands of jobs. That’s because faced with a new tax, employers will lay off some workers and use those salaries to pay the pensions for the remaining staff. And the former North Bay mayor also says the Liberals have had years to make the Ring of Fire a priority and reality but production is still years away.
