Espanola acknowledges National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

The Town of Espanola acknowledged the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation with a flag raising yesterday morning.
Espanola Mayor Doug Gervais welcomed Whitefish River First Nation Band Councillor Brian McGregor to participate in the raising of the First Nation’s official flag at the Espanola Municipal Hall.
Gervais talked of the importance of acknowledging the day, the missing children and the legacy of residential schools encouraging people to learn the history and share in the healing.
McGregor, on behalf of Chief and Council, thanked Gervais and the community for sharing in the ceremony and acknowledging the day.
Following the ceremony, a walk was hosted by Noojmowin Teg with a gathering at the Espanola Royal Canadian Legion Branch #39 featuring information booths and the sharing of stories and traditional teachings.
