Hundreds of people will be taking in the solar eclipse today, but doing it safely is paramount for this historic event.
The eclipse will make its way through the United States and then Canada, with the path of totality passing through Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime provinces.
People outside the path of totality including the North Shore Corridor will still be able to observe a partial solar eclipse, during which the Sun is not completely hidden.
Cloudy conditions are expected but with the temperature drop, those could clear for the duration of the event.
Officials say doo not look at the sun under any circumstances unless you have solar glasses.
It will start in our area at 2:07 pm, be in totality at 3:19 pm and end around 4:31 pm, so parents are advised to keep their children inside and don’t forget to bring the pets inside too.
A solar eclipse is a rare event with the next one expected in the U.S. in March of 2033, and in Western Canada in August of 2044.
