Manitoulin Special Olympics athletes excited for nationals

Manitoulin Special Olympians are gearing up to head to the national games being held in Calgary, Alberta, next week, February 27th to March 2nd.

Six athletes and three coaches will be part of Special Olympics Ontario’s team roster from Manitoulin Island.

Matthew Beddard, from Manitowaning, will be competing in snowshoeing.

The curling team also qualified to move on to compete at the Nationals.

The team includes three Mindemoya residents: Skip Tyler Madahabee, Vice Dylan Danville, Second Dayne Tipper, and Leads, Austin Recollect from M’Chigeeng and William Leclair of Kagawong.

The competitors will be flying out to Calgary on February 26th, opening ceremonies will be the evening of February 27th with the competitions beginning February 28th to March 2nd with closing ceremonies on the evening of March 2nd, then they fly back home on March 3rd.
