Sudbury is mourning the loss of another city councillor.
Officials have released a statement stating Ward 3 Councillor Gerry Montpellier has died.
No cause of death was released.
His death occurred on the same day that Greater Sudbury police says a post mortem ruled out foul play in the death of Ward 2 Councillor Michael Vagnini.
Vagnini’s death has been attributed to medical causes.
Vagnini was reported missing in late January, with his body found just west of the Sudbury on February 13th.
Mayor Paul Lefebvre says it’s an unprecedented and sorrowful time for council, the city’s employees and the community.
“It is with great sadness that we learned that our colleague, Councillor Gerry Montpellier, passed away this afternoon. It is heartbreaking and unfathomable that we should find ourselves mourning Gerry even as we continue to grieve the late Councillor Michael Vagnini. Gerry was a devoted champion for his community and a loyal proponent of his constituents. He was a supportive presence at many events across the city, particularly those with his beloved classic cars. Gerry touched the lives of so many of us in Greater Sudbury, and we will miss him.At this difficult time, I am thinking of Gerry’s wife, son, family, and friends.
