Three large parcels of land on Manitoulin Island have been bought by the Nature Conservancy of Canada to keep the land in a natural wilderness state for conservation purposes.
According to the release, the conservancy says they have purchased three areas consisting of forest, wetland and alvar sites for conservation on the south shore of the Island.
The three purchases combine for 750 hectares, which are kept in their natural state for environmental research, ecosystem restoration, Indigenous conservation and to protect wildlife in their natural habitat.
The total land base on the Island now protected by the agency is approximately 15,000 hectares.
