Tory MPP Vic Fedeli is the latest politician to ask for a permanent reinstatement of the spring bear hunt. Fedeli says the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters has shown that an annual spring hunt is an effective management tool in reducing encounters between bears and people. He adds the hunt also generates $40-million in economic activity in the north. Northern Ontario, especially Sudbury, has seen numerous bears come into communities this year and Fedeli says this issue has to be confronted.
