Northern Ontario curling champions crowned

Manitoulin Island’s curling community had the distinct honour of seeing Northern Ontario champions crowned this weekend.

Following several days of play, The McCarville Rink from Thunder Bay are Scotties Tournament of Hearts bound after winning the Northern Ontario Women’s Curling Championships.

Krista McCarville’s rink won the provincials for a 10th time, qualifying for the Scotties Tournament of Hearts nationals in Calgary.

The Bonot Rink out of Fort Williams Curling Club led by the legendary curler and coach Al Hackner are the men’s winners this year.

Ironically, the Bonot team also won the newly named Al Hackner Trophy.

That team will now go on to The Briar.
