Road painting done; walkway expected to be activated in Espanola soon

Espanola’s new section of Highway Six-Centre is now complete except for one important addition.

Town Clerk Joseph Burke says the walkway and lights at Tim Horton’s are expected to be activated soon.

He says the lights should be operational in the very near future, but there is some minor electrical work that needs to be completed adding he does not have a specific date at this time.

The walkway is expected to increase the safety of pedestrians crossing the main highway through one of the busiest traffic sections in town and to help slow down that traffic in the south end while preventing bottlenecks from forming.

All the road painting, curb work, and sidewalks have been completed from Queensway Avenue to Second Avenue.

The town has also applied for grants and funding to finalize the revitalization of the main byway from Sheppard Street to Tudhope Street, which is tentatively set to take place next Spring.
