It is Franco-Ontarian Day – wear the green and white

Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon students are celebrating the provincial Franco-Ontarian Day today. Communications director, Paul de la Riva, says Grade 7 and 8 students of École secondaire catholique La Renaissance in Espanola are in Blind River today at Jeunesse-Nord celebrate Franco-Ontarian Day.

He says there will be a flag-raising ceremony, scavenger hunt, barbecue, and plenty of musical entertainment.

De La Riva adds schools throughout the district will host similar events throughout the day including students at the elementary level.

In 2010, September 25 was officially declared to be Franco-Ontario Day in recognition of the Franco‑Ontarian flag.

The flag was raised for the first time on September 25, 1975, in Sudbury.
