Ontario government provides dollars to Sables-Spanish Rivers retrofits

The Ontario government is providing more than $666,000 through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation to the Township of Sables-Spanish Rivers for three economic development projects.

Greg Rickford, Minister of Northern Development, made the announcement in Massey adding the government is investing in recreational facilities that promote wellness in the northeast.

Mayor Kevin Burke says the township is grateful to receive just over $448,000 for a new roof membrane for the community centre, $121,000 for a new arena chiller, and another $96,000 to renovate the Webbwood Outdoor Rink.

Rickford also announced $115,000 in funding to the Spanish Royal Canadian Legion Branch 576 to carry out renovations and nearly $38,000 to the Elliot Legion Branch 561 for a new lift chair, hot water and furnace heating system, and other improvements to their hall.
