Manitoulin OPP responded to a weapons call at a downtown Espanola business on Monday following a call about a man with a handgun in his possession.
Constable Jessica Gilbertson says around 11 am, police units converged near the intersection of Highway Six – Centre Street and Barber Street.
She says they were responding to a call about a person who appeared to be wearing a bulletproof vest and in possession of a handgun.
Gilbertson says the man was quickly taken into custody and no injuries were reported.
Officials share the handgun was later identified as a pellet gun, once the accused was in custody.
She adds a 57-year-old man from Espanola was charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
He was taken into custody to appear in Sudbury Bail Court his week.
